 The
island of Cozumel, sanctuary of the Mayan goddess of the
fertility “X'chel”, was center of originating

 The
first poblamiento of Cozumel did the Mayans, of whose

vestiges, like Tulum, Cobá and the Cedral, that

Cobá is the older ceremonial center of the northeast
of the Yucatan Peninsula. It was an important city that

name of Santa Cruz. Here the first diocese of Mexico settled
