Welcome to the Mexican Caribbean,
a region of magic and enchantment. The Mexican Caribbean iscludes eight main tourist
destinations: Cancún, sophisticated and elegant, the Mayan Riviera,
with 120 kilometers of pure ocean and jungle. Three different islands - Cozumel,
an island 48 kilometers long by 14 wide; Isla Mujeres, 7 km long by one
kilometer wide located 14km from Cancún; Holbox, is 10km to the
west of Cabo Catoche, is the most northern point of the peninsula, 7.3km in length
by 800 mts wide; as well as Chetumal, Cobá and Tulum.
The
world-famous beaches of especially white, soft sand,
most of which you can have all to yourself, are set
like jewels between the turquoise Caribbean Sea and
the low subtropical jungle which is like a wall against
the sea.
Along the coasts of the Mexican Caribbean, the second
largest coral reef in the world extends the whole length
of the zone and provides a perfect place for snorkeling
and scuba diving. Amongst hundreds of species of fragile
and spectacular marine fauna and flora species you will
find mulitcolored tropical fish, sponges, starfish and
many types of coral.
Taking care of the environment,
a tourist infrastructure that responds to the needs
of every class of tourist has been constructed. Connected
by a modern highway, this paradise offers a hammock
in thatched wooden peasant cabins called palapas on
the edge of the sea, up to and including the most modern
luxury complexes in the world.
The natural life and the contact with the earth, the
transparent lukewarm waters and the verdant jungle,
as stunning as they may be, are not the only distinguishing
characteristics of the Mexican Caribbean. The night
life in the different hotspots offer countless cultural
events, and the bars and restaurants will satisfy the
most avid nocturnal partyers.
The long walks on the
beach and the horseback rides in the jungle allow close
contact with the natural world in its infinite complexity.
The climate here is semitropical, with an annual average
temperature of 26ºC, reaching 35ºC in the
summer. The highest temperatures are registered between
the months of May and August. The rainy season is from
September to October. The official currency is the Mexican
peso, although the U.S dollar and the Euro also are
accepted. An American dollar is approximately equivalent
to 10 pesos Mexican, varying according to the fluctuations
of the changing market.
